Kevin's POV The phone stayed on the floor. The minute we found out we threw our toiletries and clothes into a bag and ran out to the car. It was a three hour drive; we'd be there by morning. Why had we chosen to live so far apart? It was a need all of us had; to live in different places meant that we could believe Nick was still alive. That wasn't true, we were just idiotically pretending. Daniele drove because I was rattled and shaking too much. "It's going to be okay," I kept saying to myself. If I said it then it would be true. The lights across the road were somehow calming, a steady stream of stragglers on night trips: business men returning late from work, vacationers from far away trying to catch a glimpse of warmth at the beach, and night owls enjoying their time. Two by two, the lights would move past. I wondered: how were their lives going? Were they haunted by nightmares of death row? The bars, the cement walls, small and uncomfortable beds, everyone has seen pictures of cells, but the pictures never tell the whole story. Quicklaunch is dedicated to launching rocket propellant and other consumables into orbit using a hydrogen gas gun. Quicklaunchers are related to the SHARP launcher, originally at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. More than 90% of the mass required for manned Mars and Lunar exploration is propellant. Premiering on August 31, 1941, The Great Gildersleeve moved the title character from the McGees' Wistful Vista to Summerfield, where Gildersleeve now oversaw his late brother-in-law's estate and took on the rearing of his orphaned niece and nephew, Marjorie (originally played by Lurene Tuttle and followed by Louise Erickson and Mary Lee Robb) and Leroy Forester (Walter Tetley). The household also included a cook named Birdie. Curiously, while Gildersleeve had occasionally spoken of his (never-present) wife in some Fibber episodes, in his own series the character was a confirmed bachelor. In a striking forerunner to such later television hits as Bachelor Father and Family Affair, both of which are centered on well-to-do uncles taking in their deceased siblings' children, Gildersleeve was a bachelor raising two children while, at first, administering a girdle manufacturing company ("If you want a better corset, of course, it's a Gildersleeve") and then for the bulk of the show's run, serving as Summerfield's water commissioner, between time with the ladies and nights with the boys. The Great Gildersleeve may have been the first broadcast show to be centered on a single parent balancing child-rearing, work, and a social life, done with taste and genuine wit, often at the expense of Gildersleeve's now slightly understated pomposity. Blair Satterfield (Houston) and Marc Swackhamer (Minneapolis) began their collaboration as architects in Houston, Texas, in 1998. HouMinn (pronounced human) Practice, their present-day moniker, is both an acronym of their current geographical locations and a homophone to describe their research-based practice, which seeks collaboration with experts outside architecture in order to create work that is more rigorous and resonates with a wide audience. Their innovative wall-based systems, such as OSWall, an open source platform; Cloak Wall; and Drape Wall are evolving explorations of this primary architectural element, while projects such as Pore House, Draft House, and Feedback House have tackled issues of sustainability and affordability. These research projects have been featured in numerous publications, including Dwell and Fast Company, and have garnered prestigious honors such the 2008 R&D Award from Architect magazine and the Best in Environments award from ID Magazine.
